The endocrine system – what is it really? Not often talked about and covered, this system can make or break a body; depending upon its functioning. One of the most important functions of the endocrine system is the production, secretion and regulation of hormones. Hormones govern the abilities of the entire body, including the brain, sleep, hydration and moods.

The circadian rhythm, the body’s internal clock, is regulated by the hormone melatonin, and we provide an overview of it in this month’s issue. Likewise, melatonin supplements and how to naturally boost your body’s production of melatonin and restful sleep without sleep aids is covered. On the opposite end of rest, adrenaline and the flight or fight response is explored. Another endocrine system function is the balance of electrolytes, so thirst and electrolytes is explained.

Sometimes, things can be more unbalanced in the endocrine system than just sleep, stress and the water-salt balance of the body. These imbalances can come from the environment and from within the body. To eliminate external risks to the endocrine system, endocrine disrupting chemicals is detailed. Disorders, conditions and diseases of the endocrine system that are highlighted include: metabolic syndrome, pituitary gland tumor, thyroid disease, growth hormone deficiency, Addison’s disease, male hypogonadism, hypoglycemia and endocrine disorders that cause joint diseases.

Alternative supplemental remedies to disorders are also included; such as Ayurveda and diabetes mellitus, exercise treatments for arthritis and increasing your metabolic rate with food.

Additionally, 8 steps to being a good patient, intermittent fasting diets, lower limb prosthesis, the enlightenment of release, trauma and its consequences, and the concluding installment of heroism for health are included.

We hope you keep warm this frosty February and take away a better understanding of the endocrine system – it just may illuminate something about your own health.

Cheers to our good health!
