A former executive recently presented to our office with continuous head movement, dull‐witted, slowed speech, and wheelchair bound except for the ability to walk short distances with a cane. After years without a diagnosis, a respected out‐of‐state institution diagnosed a variant of Parkinson’s disease but was unable to help.
Blood work revealed a very high homocysteine. Mercury and some lead were in the blood. Pregnenolone, the ‘mother’ hormone for other hormones, was low, and DHEA low‐normal.
His support protocol emphasized large doses of ‘active’ methylating B vitamins (5MTHF, P5P, methylcobalamin) for homocysteine, OSR (heavy metals), chewable Pregnenolone, and DHEA lozenges. After two weeks, cognition improved markedly, returning to normal. He spoke rapidly and very intelligently. Slowly, he was able to ease out of the wheelchair on his own power for the first time in perhaps a year. Two weeks after that, head movement had ceased and he literally hopped out of the wheelchair and took three to four steps on his own – another new longtime first.
The last time I saw him, seven weeks after the first visit, he reported walking on his own 90% of the time. The transformation was the most dramatic that I have witnessed in a neurologic case, and particularly so quickly.
Tests that I recommend in Parkinson’s and most brain disorders include DHEA, testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, pregnenolone, IGF‐1, homocysteine, IgG food hypersensitivities, heavy metals, vitamins B3, B6 and B12, vitamin D 25OH, ceruloplasmin (for copper), and d‐dimer.
Not only is it necessary to get toxins out with Parkinson’s, but very important not to ingest them. Over 90% of toxins come from animal meat and milk products. A whole food plant‐based organic non‐genetically modified program with red meat once a month, white meat 0‐3 times a week, is advised. Due to mercury contamination, limit fish to twice a week in the form of wild salmon or sardines. Eat cage‐free eggs (in those not hypersensitive), lots of vegetables, some berries and whole grains (but not bread). Drink 5‐8 cups of green tea along with reverse osmosis water (but none in small bottles).
Brain health is improved with sixty minutes of aerobic activity each day, and five minutes of anaerobic. Meditate each morning.
Absolutely basic when not contraindicated are optimal doses of fish oil, vitamin D3, ‘active’ B vitamins, coenzyme Q10 ubiquinol, adaptogens, and nighttime magnesium. Resveratrol, NADH, creatine, melatonin, and turmeric are among others recommended. Always consult with your healthcare provider before initiating nutritional support.
Most neurological disorders are amenable to integrative approaches. We have seen good responses in ADHD, learning disorders, cognitive impairment, tic doloreaux, migraines, early Alzheimer’s, and anticipate seeing good results in autism.
We intend to have the #1 national expert on reversing coronary disease present at the Midway Foundation Fall Conference on Brain and Heart Health. In the spring, one of the most knowledgeable individuals on cancer in the world, Don Yance, has committed to speak at the Second Annual Midway Foundation Cancer Conference.
